Attack boosting natures
Attack Boosting Natures in Pokemon
More Attack is easy to want. It is harder to know what you can afford to lose. This guide helps you choose the right Attack boosting nature in Pokemon without turning your physical attacker into a beautiful mistake.
Quick Answer: Which Natures Boost Attack?
The Attack boosting natures in Pokemon are Adamant, Brave, Lonely, and Naughty. Each one raises Attack by 10%, but each one lowers a different stat. For most physical attackers, Adamant is the safest Attack boosting nature. Brave is for slow power. Lonely and Naughty are sharper tools with real defensive costs.
The Choice Is Not Just More Attack
Attack boosting natures all promise the same headline: stronger physical hits. The real decision is hidden in the lowered stat. A good nature does not only raise the stat you love. It lowers a stat your Pokemon can actually live without.
That is why Adamant feels so clean. Many physical attackers never use Special Attack, so lowering Special Attack barely changes the plan. Lonely, Naughty, and Brave can be correct too, but they ask for something in return: bulk, special bulk, or Speed.
Attack Boosting Natures Compared
| Nature | Lowers | Use it when | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adamant | Special Attack | Your Pokemon is a physical attacker and does not need Special Attack. | The clean default. Adamant gives more physical damage while cutting the stat many physical attackers ignore. |
| Brave | Speed | Your Pokemon is already slow, wants power, or is built for Trick Room. | The slow answer. Brave is powerful when moving last is acceptable or even part of the plan. |
| Lonely | Defense | You need Attack and cannot afford to lower Special Attack, but physical bulk is not central to the set. | A risky answer. Lonely keeps Special Attack intact, but the Defense drop can make every switch feel expensive. |
| Naughty | Special Defense | You want stronger physical damage while keeping Special Attack for mixed coverage. | The aggressive mixed answer. Naughty nature Pokemon hit harder, but special attacks punish the trade. |
Adamant Is the Default for a Reason
If your Pokemon is a pure physical attacker, start with Adamant. Adamant raises Attack and lowers Special Attack, which is usually the cleanest trade a physical attacker can make. It makes Earthquake, Close Combat, Crunch, Dragon Claw, and other physical moves hit harder without touching Speed or defensive stats.
That does not make Adamant automatic. It makes Adamant the baseline. The moment your Pokemon loses because it moved second, the question changes. At that point, compare Adamant with Jolly nature Pokemon, because the first hit can matter more than the biggest hit.
When Jolly Beats an Attack Boosting Nature
Jolly does not boost Attack, so it does not belong on the Attack boosting natures list. But it absolutely belongs in the decision. If Speed lets your Pokemon move first, revenge kill, avoid a Speed tie, or sweep after setup, Jolly can win games that Adamant only makes closer.
Use this rule: choose an Attack boosting nature when the extra damage changes knockouts. Choose Jolly when Speed changes the turn. Damage is loud. Speed is final.
Naughty vs Lonely: The Risky Attack Natures
Naughty and Lonely are not better versions of Adamant. They are compromise natures. Both raise Attack, but they keep Special Attack untouched, which can matter for mixed attackers that use one special coverage move.
Choose Naughty if you can give up Special Defense more easily than Defense. Choose Lonely if you can give up Defense more easily than Special Defense. If that sentence already feels uncomfortable, Adamant is probably the better nature. Great teams are built on clean tradeoffs, not wishful thinking.
Brave Is for Slow Power
Brave raises Attack and lowers Speed. That sounds bad until Speed stops being the point. Slow wallbreakers, bulky attackers, and Trick Room Pokemon can use Brave because they care more about maximum force than moving naturally fast.
Do not put Brave on a Pokemon that needs to outrun threats. Put Brave on a Pokemon that was never trying to win the Speed race in the first place.
The One Question Before You Choose
- Pick Adamant when the Pokemon is a physical attacker that does not use Special Attack.
- Pick Brave when the Pokemon is slow, bulky, or built for Trick Room.
- Pick Naughty when you want Attack but still need Special Attack for mixed coverage.
- Pick Lonely only when the Defense drop is less painful than the other tradeoffs.
- Pick Jolly when moving first matters more than hitting harder.
